Teaching and Learning
The East Haven High School community believes that the mission of the school is to meet the needs of all students by empowering them to achieve their goals. We strive to provide a variety of opportunities for students to gain experiences and to explore ideas to better understand themselves and their role in an ever-changing world. To achieve our mission, we encourage active involvement and communication among school, family, and community.
East Haven High School students are expected to acquire and demonstrate specific skills and content knowledge as they progress towards graduation. The student expectations outlined below are embedded in our course offerings. In each course students will learn, practice, and demonstrate their knowledge of and ability to achieve these expectations. Specific student academic expectations taught in the various courses are listed after each course description in this booklet. For each of the academic expectations listed below, there are rubrics available to measure student progress toward achieving proficiency.
NEASC Accreditation Statement
East Haven High School is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Incorporated, a non-governmental, nationally recognized organization whose affiliated institutions include elementary schools through collegiate institutions offering post-graduate instruction.
Accreditation of an institution by the New England Association indicates that it meets or exceeds criteria for the assessment of institutional quality periodically applied through a peer group review process. An accredited school or college is one which has available the necessary resources to achieve its stated purpose through appropriate educational programs, is substantially doing so, and gives reasonable evidence that it will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. Institutional integrity is also addressed through accreditation.
