McKenna Miller and Kate Fischer — seniors at Collinsville High School — have been named 2017 Coca-Cola Scholars Semifinalists.
They are among 1,914 students selected from nearly 86,000 applicants across the country to continue though the selection process.
They have submitted their semifinalist applications to be reviewed by the Program Reading Committee. After this review, 250 semifinalists will advance as Regional Finalists, with 150 becoming 2017 Coca Cola Scholars.

McKenna Miller hopes to become an OB nurse practitioner/midwife. Besides serving in the CHS Student Council, she is treasurer of the Illinois Association of Student Councils. She is also active in Student Government, Multicultural Kahoks, National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, French Honor Society, Kahoks United and Drama Club. She has been recognized for academic excellence at CHS and scored in the top 5% on the ACT.
Kate Fischer aspires to become a surgeon specializing in neurosurgery and emergency medicine. She has served as president of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Latin Club. She is vice president of the Illinois Junior Classical League. She is a member of Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, National Honor Society, Latin Honor Society, Math Team, STEM Club, Science Olympiad Team, Science Honor Society and Worldwide Youth in Science & Engineering. Kate is also on the Varsity Volleyball Team and Captain of the Swim Team. She is ranked first in the senior class.
