Summit Elementary teacher Stephanie Pulse was chosen to receive the November 2018 KPLR-TV “Tools for Teachers” award.
She received a $500 check from KPLR and appeared live on their Friday, November 30, 2018 noon newscast. (Click to view Mrs. Pulse and Dr. Haake on KPLR.)
Pulse was nominated by Summit Elementary Principal Dr. Julie Haake, who wrote: “Mrs. Pulse is a very compassionate and dedicated educator. She continually strives to find new ways to reach her students, works well with everyone and easily adapts to all situations.”
Dr. Haake will appear with Pulse on the November 30th broadcast.
The KPLR website says, “Teachers have many roles as coach, tutor, adviser, guide, mentor, expert, friend and partner to their students and families. We all have teachers who have made a lasting impact in our lives. And, KPLR 11 wants to honor those in the St. Louis Metro Area with our Tools for Teachers program.”
The monthly Tools for Teachers award is sponsored by Weber Chevrolet.
Dr. Haake said there are many reasons Mrs. Pulse deserves recognition:
In addition to being a natural leader, Mrs. Pulse has developed strong relationships with her students and their families. She is very aware of each student’s individual needs and is quick to do anything and everything she can to assist students (and parents). Stephanie has constant communication with all families and supports them both in and out of school. Most recently she gathered school supplies and dropped them off at a house – she included supplies for her current student as well as all the siblings that attend other schools. Her heart is full of compassion and support, not just for her students, but for her families!
She actively participates on the district’s general education curriculum council and the special education curriculum council. She is the only dual member. Several years ago, Mrs. Pulse spent weeks analyzing test score data and investigating different core reading programs. Her recommendation has become the district adopted program for all classrooms, and she is the district trainer!
Mrs. Pulse is the educational liaison for a neighboring school’s after school tutoring program. She oversees the enrollment, the teaching staff and the curriculum. Again, she researched and has implemented materials and lesson design that support the district’s curriculum and help close the achievement gap for these at-risk students.
Most importantly, Mrs. Pulse’s heart is in education and her love of children is genuine and the basis for all of her actions and decisions. Daily she supports all teachers and students in every way possible. Without a doubt, Stephanie Pulse is an extremely compassionate and dedicated educator, who always puts the students first!
