On May 1, 2019, principals, school district administrators, parents and students from public schools throughout Southwestern Illinois gathered at the Gateway Center in Collinsville for the Illinois Principals Association Southwestern Region 24th Annual Student Recognition Breakfast.
Nearly 150 students were honored. Parents were invited to help celebrate the occasion as each student was asked to come forward to receive a special certificate and medal.
Carol Daniel, KMOX radio news anchor, was the keynote speaker. She spoke about having good character and “bringing light to people who have darkness in their lives.” She urged the students to continue to be good role models and set an example for others.
Dr. Todd Pettit, principal of Kreitner Elmentary School and IPA Regional Director-elect, helped present the awards and delivered closing remarks.
Collinsville High School senior Jimmy Moore was chosen to receive a $500 IPA scholarship to use toward college expenses next year. His name was drawn from among all high school students in attendance.
