Starting Points is the Collinsville School District’s home visiting program serving prenatal parents and children up to age 3.
For qualifying families, Starting Points offers weekly and biweekly home visits, parent/child play groups, community resources and developmental screenings. Starting Points utilizes the Parents as Teachers model.
Parents as Teachers helps parents understand child development and connects them to the resources they need to make the best choices for their families.
Starting Points is funded by the Illinois State Board of Education’s Prevention Initiative Grant. Parent educators Lisa Epps and Christy Stark say they tailor the program to each family’s needs.
“Parents are a child’s first and best teachers,” say Epps and Stark. “We partner with parents to teach parenting skills, provide child development assessments and increase school readiness and success.”
