The Collinsville High School faculty is working diligently to ensure students have many opportunities to help them prepare for the SAT exam this spring.
“The staff is doing an awesome job with regard to SAT preparation,” says Principal David Snider. “I have been impressed – but not surprised – by the proactive, professional approach of the CHS educational team. I firmly believe their everyday teaching is the most important part of preparing our students for this important test, however, we are also implementing a few incentive and tutoring programs to further assist students.”
“This exam is important to students individually, as well as our school and community collectively,” says Snider.
The CHS School Improvement Team, Counseling Department, and additional staff have developed an incentive program for students to work on Khan Academy.
Khan Academy is a free, online, personalized educational resource. According to their website, “Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom.”
To encourage students to take advantage of Khan Academy as a resource, CHS is offering the following incentives:
Freshman/Sophomores/Juniors:
The student from each class who spends the most time on Khan Academy during a week will have a pizza delivered to them during lunch. The first pizzas will be delivered starting February 2.
All juniors who spend at least 25 hours on Khan Academy by April 10 will be eligible to attend a field trip at Six Flags or some equivalent activity. The tickets will be sold at a discounted rate. Time already spent does count toward the 25 hours. One student has already logged 18 hours! CHS will also announce an additional performance incentive for juniors at the SAT Assembly (7th period) on Friday, March 23rd.
Furthermore, CHS is offering ZAPS SAT practice after school* (2/21 & 2/22) at a significantly reduced cost for the junior class. ZAPS typically costs $89.99, but CHS students are being offered the program for $19.99. ZAPS is a two-day seminar that totals 5 hours of test preparation.
CHS will offer juniors Khan Academy support in the cafeteria at the following times: 2/28, 3/7, and 3/14 (Wednesdays) from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. & 3/24 and 4/7 (Saturday mornings) from 9:00 a.m. – noon.
