On Wednesday, February 27, 2019 Renfro Elementary hosted a Family Reading Night with the theme “All You Need is Love.”
Families visited “Love the Arts” “Love of Writing” “Love You Math” “Love to Be Safe Online” and “Love S-more Reading at Renfro Campground” – earning stamps on pretend passports for prizes:
Love the Arts
Students painted works of art while classical music played in the background to inspire them.Love of Writing
Students cut out paper hearts (fine motor) and glued them to a paper jar, then wrote love notes to whomever they wanted.Love you Math
One room had math games styled after “Topit” using playing cards. Another room did graphing with colored pencils and M&M’s.Love to Be Safe Online
Internet safety videos were playing on a large TV. Student-created posters decorated the area. A Parent Tip sheet was available for pick up.Love S-more Reading at Renfro Campground
A “campsite” was set up for families to choose a book and read by flashlight. Baggies filled with “s’mores-type” treats were given away. There was also a staged camping area for a photo booth. Adding to the campsite ambiance, nighttime forest sounds of crickets, toads, etc. were playing throughout the gym.
Prizes and activities were funded by the district’s Title I grant.
