Kahok Families,
We are about to close the door on another school year and before we do, it’s only appropriate to acknowledge the efforts of our families, staff and students who made this year a success and recognize the Collinsville High School Class of 2021.
This year has required teamwork like we never imagined and family involvement in school work has never been more vital. While family involvement in a child’s education has always been beneficial, this year it has been needed more than ever. As a parent, I hope you felt a sense of accomplishment and pride in your child’s achievements during this time of non-traditional learning. The integration of technology by our staff mirrored futuristic 80s movies and the resilience of our students has been nothing short of incredible. After a year that will go down in history, it’s fair to say we are all tired these final few weeks and as summer begins we look forward to some downtime. The upcoming summer break is well deserved!
On May 15th, the district will honor the Collinsville High School Class of 2021 with in-person commencement ceremonies. There is a long list of activities seniors for decades have enjoyed that the Class of 2021 did not get to experience because they just weren’t possible during a pandemic. But, rather than focus on the missed opportunities, let’s focus on what they did accomplish.
To the Class of 2021: You navigated your entire senior year successfully while living in a pandemic. Classes, socializing, athletics and co-curricular activities were all impacted in some way, shape or form. But you endured!
Nothing has been easy about this year, but as you close this chapter and move on to the next page in your life…let’s focus on what you learned. Life always has unexpected twists and turns personally and professionally. When they occur you will be forced to adapt, learn new skills, work hard, display patience and make the best of difficult situations. It will not be easy, but what you accomplished this school year, has prepared you for the next chapter of your life. The key… focusing on what you can accomplish, not what you cannot!
There are times a simple thank you and congratulations are the most appropriate. On that thought, I want to thank our families, staff and students while CONGRATULATING THE COLLINSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL CLASS of 2021 for making it through a historic school year and coming out on the other side stronger and better prepared for the future.
Don’t forget to wear your purple and show your Kahok Pride!
Sincerely,
Dr. Mark B. Skertich, Ed.D.
Superintendent
