October 26, 2020 – Mayville Elementary School special education teacher Jessica May was recognized as October 2020 Kahok Educator of the Month during a staff meeting on Monday, October 26. The award was presented by Edward Jones Representative Jason Rehg and Maryville Principal Carmen Loemker.
Principal Loemker had the following to say about Mrs. May:
“She works with inclusion students in a co-teach setting which allows her to interact with many students at multiple grade levels. Over the years, she has positively influenced and guided countless students, some of whom were not even on her caseload or her responsibility.
I have received emails and comments from parents over the years praising Mrs. May for her ability to help struggling students find success at school. This has held true during remote learning where she continues to meet with individuals as needed, all times of the day, to support students academically and emotionally while teaching in-person as well.
Mrs. May has sought trainings in growth mindset and PBIS to develop and grow professionally, gaining insights in how best to support students. She is a leader on our PBIS team and shares innovative and insightful ideas. She is on our data team and analyzes student performance and ways to foster student growth. She is a team player, supportive of staff members, an advocate for students and families, and a friend to many.”
Local Edward Jones Representative Jason Rehg sponsors the award each month during the school year to recognize outstanding educators in Collinsville CUSD 10.
