August 2023 – Barbara Lindauer, Collinsville High School social studies department chair, was honored with the Superintendent’s Quality & Excellence Award on August 15, 2023 during the Collinsville Community Unit School District #10 staff welcome back event at Collinsville High School.
The award is presented annually by the district superintendent in two categories: certified staff and non-certified staff. Individuals are nominated by district colleagues and chosen by Superintendent Dr. Mark B. Skertich based on their merits and accomplishments. Ms. Lindauer was honored in the certified staff category.
Criteria for the Superintendent’s Quality & Excellence award include: rapport with students; relationship with peers; professionalism; classroom activities and use of content knowledge (certified staff); going above and beyond in their profession; and community involvement.
Ms. Lindauer was nominated by colleagues Ashley Kloustermeyer, Karen Olsen, Scott Randall, Mark Schusky, Tracey Schmidt, Cathy Kulupka, Laura O’Hara, Bobby Wright and Dakota Tostado. Their remarks included:
Barbara Lindauer is continually striving to hold high standards for each Collinsville High School student. She provides endless opportunities for students to gain experiences to learn and grow as leaders. She accomplishes this through her involvement in a wide range of student-centered activities. She consistently utilizes hands-on activities to accompany content. Mrs. Lindauer is never someone’s teacher for one year, as she goes above and beyond to support students even after they are no longer in her class. Barbara IS the gift that keeps on giving.
Mrs. Lindauer consistently develops positive relationships and rapport with students throughout her lessons, and during passing periods, where she visits with students to talk about improving grades, after school clubs and activities, and what is going on in their lives outside of school. Barbara has sponsored and organized many events through the seven clubs she sponsors. And, she is always at those events to cheer on her students.
Mrs. Lindauer is quick to collaborate with her peers in a variety of ways. She leads her department as the social studies chairperson and serves as a building representative for the CEA. If a peer needs assistance, they know they will find it in Mrs. Lindauer.
Barbara Lindauer is a two-time Teacher of the Year recipient for the Collinsville Chamber of Commerce, a Fulbright Hays Scholar, the 2015-16 State of IL Smart/Maher VFW Citizenship Education Teacher of the Year, 2018 Patriot Service Award winner and was named a 2019-20 Teach Plus Illinois Rural Teacher Leader. Mrs. Lindauer models the importance of civic duty. Some examples of this include the memorial erected in front of CHS honoring veterans; engaging CHS students in an environmentally-conscious educational and leadership opportunity to plant trees in Fairmont City; and conducting a 9/11 ceremony that she began, lead, and has continued as a tradition at CHS.
