August 2, 2023 – Collinsville Community Unit School District #10 announces Ms. Leah Davis will be an assistant principal at Dorris Intermediate School in the 2023-24 school year.
When she was growing up in Granite City, Ms. Davis knew from a young age that she wanted to be a teacher. After high school, she attended Southern Illinois University Edwardsville to earn a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. While working as a sixth grade teacher at Dorris Intermediate School, she completed a master’s in teacher leadership, special education endorsement and principal certificate at McKendree University.
“This is my 12th year in education,” says Ms. Davis, “I consider myself lucky to have spent all of those years at DIS and am excited to continue my journey there in a new role.
“I believe the goal of education is to provide students with experiences that prepare them to be college and career ready, and become successful members of society. The foundation for this begins at the earliest years of school and continues through higher education.
“I believe there are three main pillars that are the foundation of successful schools: a strong community, home and school connection; a culture where patrons feel respected and valued within the school community; and rigorous research-based instruction that challenges students to continue to grow and develop as learners.”
Ms. Davis lives in Collinsville with her husband and two kids. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, and walking/running with her four-legged companion, Cocoa, a chocolate lab. She also loves to travel. Her personal goal is to visit every national park in the United States.
She quotes Malala Yousafzai who said “One child, one teacher, one book, one pen can change the world.” Ms. Davis adds “I truly believe this, and know that our students, teachers, faculty and staff are changing the world each and every day.”
