April 26, 2021 – Kreitner Elementary bilingual third-grade teacher Maria Hernandez was surprised today with the news that she had been named December 2020 Kahok Educator of the Month. The award was presented by Edward Jones Representative Jason Rehg and Kreitner Principal Dr. Kari Daugherty. The original presentation was delayed due to COVID-19 remote schooling in December.
Principal Dr. Daugherty said:
“Maria teaches bilingual third grade. If you ask her co-workers, they’ll tell you she collaborates with her colleagues, makes herself available to students outside of regular school hours, and finds ways to help families receive their packets. Because resources in Spanish are limited, she has created many student resources herself. She consistently goes the extra mile for her students and still stays on top of everything else that is demanded of a teacher. She really goes above and beyond while always maintaining a calm, loving spirit.”
