Kreitner Elementary has earned the Gold Level of Recognition from the Midwest PBIS Network. PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports.
The Midwest PBIS Network is “committed to building capacity of schools to prevent problem behaviors, promote positive school culture, and to evaluate the impact on both social and academic success of all youth, including those with the highest level of need.”
PBIS is a way for schools to encourage good behavior by focusing on prevention. Kids learn about behavior and are supported based on their individual needs. Staff in schools implementing PBIS use data and meet regularly to track progress in managing behavior issues and adapt strategy if something’s not working. Discipline is used, but punishment isn’t the focus.
Kreitner Elementary has successfully moved from the Bronze (2015-16) to the Silver (2016-17) and now to the Gold (2017-18) level of recognition for School-wide PBIS Implementation. Over 500 Illinois schools were recognized for the 2017-18 school year.
