March 20, 2023 – Last week, Kahok Special Olympics Athletes were joined by neurotypical peers from Collinsville High School to participate in a Unified Sports Day at Edwardsville High School.
Life skills students from Edwardsville, Collinsville and East St. Louis High Schools teamed with their partners for a day of activities and Special Olympics sports. They also enjoyed arts and crafts, music and dancing. All students were served pizza for lunch before concluding with a friendly game of kickball.
CHS special education teachers Lynn Vermeiren and Angie McGinnis accompanied the students. Vermeiren said, “It was an amazing day and everyone involved had a great time. So good to see so much inclusion!”
