Kahok Families,
Over the past few months, district faculty and staff have worked diligently to digest guidance from the State of Illinois and create a plan to educate our students for the coming school year. Throughout the planning process, it became clear the district needed multiple options to ensure faculty and staff are prepared for whatever scenario arises. Not all of the options are ideal for educators or families but I am proud of the effort being put forth by district employees. The #KAHOKWAY has and continues to be evident throughout our school district and communities.
Yes, we are flying the plane while we build it, no one can deny that during unprecedented times. However, Collinsville CUSD #10 is prepared for what may arise in the months to come and a spike in positive COVID-19 cases in our region, reinforces that all families prepare for each option listed below. On July 20th, the Board of Education approved the district’s Return to Learning
Plan for the 20-21 school year: The plan outlines health and safety measures being put in place for the coming school year and a detailed explanation regarding each learning setting is included in the plan. The three options for the coming school year are as follows and can be found on the district website at www.kahoks.org:
• Return to Learn at 100% Capacity – Traditional Setting
• Return to Learn Blended Remote at approximately 50% Capacity*
• Return to Learn Remote Only
Enclosed in this communication is an updated calendar for the coming school year. I would like to highlight a few changes for the coming school year. Faculty and staff will now begin on the August 13th. This will allow additional time for meetings, training and planning for the changes that will be implemented this school year. September 18th and October 9th, are now going to be Remote Planning Days, students will not attend to allow faculty and staff to attend trainings and prepare for the remainder of the first semester. The Columbus Day Holiday is being waived. The State of Illinois designated November 3rd a state holiday for the general election. This calendar change ensures we do not lose an additional day of instruction. Last, Parent/Teacher Conferences are being moved to October 30th and November 2nd. This aligns with the November 3rd holiday and provides consistency for parents.
District staff, building principals and building committees have been working on times for the beginning and end of the school day. This information will be released to parents the week of July 27th. We want to ensure each plan complies with state and IDPH guidance, considers student and staff safety, is manageable within each building, and ensure the information we provide families is accurate.
On behalf of Collinsville CUSD #10, thank you to our families and district employees! The past few months have not been easy, the months ahead and foreseeable future appear to be taking a similar course. Let’s continue to work together for the sake of our students and make the most of a difficult situation. #KAHOKWAY
Sincerely,
Mark B. Skertich, Ed. D
Superintendent
