April 24, 2023 – Jefferson Elementary School PTA President Betsy Bovee was named the 2023 Outstanding Volunteer of the Year by Illinois PTA during their PTA Convention Award Celebration on April 22.
Each year Illinois PTA receives nominations from local PTA units recognizing outstanding contributions of their volunteers, teachers and administrators to the PTA mission. PTA’s mission is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.
Betsy was nominated by Jefferson PTA Treasurer Laura Gottschalk.

…Betsy has held the position of PTA president for the last several years, where she has worked to maintain a vibrant and active PTA. She has been a devoted volunteer, spending countless hours organizing events, planning fundraisers, and advocating for the families of Jefferson Elementary….
Betsy’s passion for PTA has truly been contagious. Our PTA recently earned recognition for our high membership numbers as a SILVER Star PTA, in large part due to Betsy’s hard work. She has led multiple membership drives and has worked hard to ensure that every Jefferson Elementary student is represented. She has altered the day, time, and location of our monthly meetings to try to accommodate as many families’ schedules as possible. She has spoken countless times about the benefits of becoming a PTA member. Betsy strives to get everyone participating in the PTA in some way, big or small….
