Collinsville Community Unit School District #10 joins those grieving in the aftermath of the tragic incident at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
We would like to thank the Collinsville Illinois Police Department for their visible presence and show of support as students arrived at Collinsville High School on the morning following the Florida school tragedy.
Please remember CUSD 10 has a dedicated phone line for parents, students and the public to report issues related to safety and security at school. The Safe & Secure Hotline number is (618) 979-6406.
The following message was sent to Collinsville High School families on Thursday, February 15, 2018 by Principal David Snider:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The recent school tragedy in Florida is disheartening to all of us. Please be assured that the safety of our students, as well as the entire school community, is of the utmost importance to me and Collinsville CUSD #10. I want you to know that we always have the safety of our students in mind. Please understand that we engage in quarterly crisis planning meetings on a district level in order to review our safety procedures. At Collinsville High School, I engage our School Resource Officer and District Security Director in frequent conversations pertaining to school safety.
Our administrative team and counseling staff consistently interact with regard to student safety. We have numerous school programs which strive to identify and support mental health needs.
Plans are currently in order for Mental Health Awareness Month in May. We are also exploring ways in which we can better serve, support, and educate CHS students and our school community regarding mental health issues.
I anticipate the implementation of additional programs, which will further address mental health and school safety at CHS in the future.
I would like to communicate that our entrance gates will be locked in the morning until 7:15 a.m. as an added security measure. Students who have school activities will still be able to enter the building as needed.
Please feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] or call me at 618-346-6320, ext. 1100 if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
David Snider
Principal, Collinsville High School
