August 2023 – Hilary Himmelberg, fifth grade teacher at Dorris Intermediate School, was honored with the Superintendent’s Quality & Excellence Award on August 15, 2023 during the Collinsville Community Unit School District #10 staff welcome back event at Collinsville High School.
The award is presented annually by the district superintendent in two categories: certified staff and non-certified staff. Individuals are nominated by district colleagues and chosen by Superintendent Dr. Mark B. Skertich based on their merits and accomplishments. Mrs. Himmelberg was honored in the certified staff category.
Criteria for the Superintendent’s Quality & Excellence award include: rapport with students; relationship with peers; professionalism; classroom activities and use of content knowledge (certified staff); going above and beyond in their profession; and community involvement.
Mrs. Himmelberg was nominated by colleague, Julie Giacoletto, who wrote:
Mrs. Himmelberg works hard to develop a positive rapport with students. She knows her students and adapts classroom activities and her content knowledge to meet their needs. If you enter her classroom, you will see her clarifying, providing examples, and modeling so all understand.
Her commitment to the students is exceptional. If students want to know more about a topic, she has someone in the community come in the next week. This past year, she went to a student’s house before the school year began in order to make sure the year would be a great one! She is making plans for the upcoming year for an experience for our students which requires building relationships with businesses in our community.
Mrs. Himmelberg is held in high regard in our building, demonstrating a level of professionalism for all to follow. She is always willing to share resources. She has made herself numerous files for the entire grade level to use for Wit and Wisdom. She serves on numerous committees.
