May 13, 2022 – Former Twin Echo Elementary student Kerry (Jones) Nenn (Collinsville High School Class of 1996) returned to the school today as a published author sharing her children’s book – “T-Rex in My Closet” – with current students.
Nenn was accompanied by Twin Echo Principal Dr. Julie Haake on visits to classrooms as part of the school’s “V.I.P.” day. The theme-for-the-day was part of the school’s alphabetical countdown to the end of the school year….May 13 representing the letter “V”. Dr. Haake shared yearbook photos of young Kerry Nenn to show the students how the children’s book author was once just like them.
“T-Rex in My Closet” is Nenn’s first children’s book in her career as a full-time freelance writer and author. She says the inspiration for the book was her two nephews’ love of dinosaurs. Nenn collaborated with an illustrator to bring the book to life. Learn more about her on her website: https://nennpen.com/.
In addition to reading her book to students, she talked about being a writer and encouraged them to create stories of their own. The students asked many questions and were very interested in talking about what they would do if they suspected a dinosaur was hiding in their rooms.
