September 2021 – The US Federal Communications Bureau Wireline Competition Bureau has announced the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program (EBB Program) has expanded eligibility to “. . . households that can demonstrate participation in the free and reduced price school lunch program or school breakfast program for the 2021-2022 school year . . .”
This means families who qualify for free or reduced meals or whose children attend a school that participates in the USDA Community Eligibility Provision can receive $50 off broadband internet service.
The Federal Communications Commission launched this temporary program to help families and households struggling to afford Internet service during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Emergency Broadband Benefit provides a discount of up to $50 per month toward broadband service for eligible households and up to $75 per month for households on qualifying Tribal lands. Eligible households can also receive a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer or tablet from participating providers.
To prove eligibility, CUSD 10 families need to have completed the Food Service Application during online registration. Those who did not complete the application during online registration, can get it from:
- Child’s school office
- District website: From the RESOURCES dropdown menu on the homepage, click the School Lunch link, look for the Meal Assistance menu, and click the link for Free or Reduced. Look for the HEA (household Eligibility Application) in English or Spanish on the right hand side of the page.
In addition, ALL families whose children attend a school that participates in the USDA Community Eligibility Provision automatically qualify. CUSD 10 schools that participate are: Webster Elementary, Twin Echo Elementary, Caseyville Elementary and Kreitner Elementary.
Eligible households can enroll through a participating broadband provider or directly with the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) using an online or mail-in application.
