Fall Update to Parents and Guardians (espanõl)
October 29, 2018
Parents and Guardians:
As the end of October approaches, I wanted to reach out to you about several important things.
Parent/Teacher Conferences
2018 Parent/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Thursday and Friday, November 1- 2. These meetings are an important opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher(s) to talk about progress and potential.
We have seen positive trends in overall academic achievement. Your child’s teacher will have specific data to show how your child is progressing.
In CUSD 10, we use assessment tools called AIMSweb (grades K-6) and MAP (grades 7-10) that measure growth and monitor progress to keep us informed on how to meet the needs of each individual student. Teachers use this data to develop educational plans to help every child move toward success.
Please make time to attend Parent/Teacher Conferences. Reach out to your child’s school for information regarding times and appointment procedures.
5Essentials Survey
The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) is administering an online parent survey from now until January 18, 2019, The 5Essentials Survey gives parents an opportunity to share thoughts about your child’s school.
The survey is based on five indicators of school success identified by the University of Chicago. In November, teachers and students in grades 4-12 will also respond. Reports will be sent to schools and districts in March 2019. Teacher and student responses will also be included in the 2019 State Report Card.
During Parent/Teacher conferences, CUSD 10 schools will provide computers where you can complete the survey, or you can log into https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/ and take the survey at home. Your identity and survey responses are completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.
Your participation in the parent portion of the survey will help us understand the conditions at your school and guide improvement. For more information about the 5Essentials Survey, or to view previous years’ reports, visit: https://5-essentials.org/illinois.
Illinois State Report Cards
On October 31, 2018, ISBE will release 2018 Report Cards for all public school districts and schools in the state. The Report Cards are a snapshot of student growth and success, as well as an opportunity to gain insight into the school.
New this year, every school’s Report Card will include a “Summative Designation” that indicates how well the school is meeting the needs of all students. Each school will be placed into one of four categories: Lowest Performing, Underperforming, Commendable and Exemplary.
CUSD 10 is pleased ISBE has moved away from evaluating schools based solely on test scores. Our schools use many indicators to help us monitor student growth. The new Illinois Report Card takes several factors into consideration to indicate how well a school serves the needs of its particular students.
Stay tuned in the coming days for more information about the release of the 2018 Illinois State Report Cards. We will be sharing information about our schools on www.kahoks.org and in district social media.
I am proud of the hard work our students and staff put in every day. We are implementing innovative curriculum and collaborating across grades, subjects and schools. We are adapting our programs and methods to meet the changing needs of our students. As a result, we see student growth trending upward.
The 2018-19 school year is well underway. Working together, parents, schools and the community can ensure the kids in CUSD 10 have tools for a successful year of learning and a lifetime of achievement.
Sincerely,
Dr. Robert Green
Superintendent
Collinsville Community Unit School District #10
