J’Vaughn Williams had to wait until he was a senior to be a starting quarterback in high school.
He may get the chance to start at the NCAA Division I college level as a redshirt freshman.
The former Collinsville standout is part of a two-man contest for the starting position at Western Illinois of the Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC). Williams feels his redshirt year was a key to the improvement a new coaching staff at WIU is seeing in him.
That redshirt year helped out tremendously, Williams said. I got bigger and was able to sit back and watch and see what’s going on without actually being in there. I also learned a lot from the older guys.
