Collinsville High School seniors and Project Lead the Way engineering students John Fulton and Cameron Tanzyus are at NASA in Cape Canaveral, Florida, to compete in the Conrad Innovation Challenge, a global engineering competition.
John and Cameron are one of 90 teams that have earned delegate status and are the only ones from the Midwest. Other states participating include Florida, North Carolina, California, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Texas, Connecticut, New York, Washington, and Massachusetts. There are also international teams from Korea, Israel, China, Australia, India, Thailand, and Japan.
Ms. Cindy Bednara, CHS teacher and PLTW certified master teacher explained, “Over the next several days, they will undergo multiple reviews and interviews with employees of the Conrad Foundation in the hopes of being named Conrad Scholars. They have been working on their project since the beginning of the school year.”
Project Lead the Way is a comprehensive approach to STEM Education. According to the PLTW website: “Through activity-, project-, and problem-based curriculum, PLTW gives students in kindergarten through high school a chance to apply what they know, identify problems, find unique solutions, and lead their own learning.”
