The Collinsville Delta Epsilon Chapter #101 of Delta Kappa Gamma donated books to kindergartners in the CUSD 10 community during January 2018.
Every kindergarten student in the Collinsville Unit 10 community enrolled in a public or private school received a book to take home and share with their families.
This year’s official book was If You Give a Moose a Muffin by Laura Numeroff, based on availability, some children received another book by the same author. Spanish or English versions were provided to students.
“We hope this book will promote family literacy activities as well as develop early literacy skills. We hope this will encourage parents to read often to their children and share discussion of books” — according to Delta Epsilon.
On Wednesday, January 17, Delta Epsilon members Mary Lee Muniz, Mary Ann Parrill and Maureen Schreiber delivered books to the kindergarten classes at Kreitner Elementary School. The retired educators took time to read with students and talk about the importance of reading outside school.
