As part of the Positive Behavioral Intervention Support (PBIS) initiative in CUSD 10, Dorris Intermediate School found an innovative way to promote the concept to students AND raise money for future PBIS celebrations.
PBIS District Coach Lisa McFall-Calvert said DIS held a Penny War for two weeks; the class from each grade level that raised the most money had the opportunity to put a pie in the face of a staff member they chose. The Penny War raised $1,486.28. The staff members who graciously participated were Tara Bode, Chris Comrie and Jenna Klucker.
PBIS sets expectations and rewards positive student behavior. Successful PBIS establishes a school-wide culture.
“The students and staff were so pumped,” said McFall-Calvert, “It was a great way to see them come together and acknowledge their goal and accomplishments.”
