Dorris Intermediate School teacher Hilary Heinlein was selected as the December 2017 KPLR Channel 11 Tools for Teachers winner. She will receive $500 from Weber Chevrolet and appear on the KPLR noon news on Friday, December 15.
Ms. Heinlein was nominated by parent Amy Hart. Hart will appear with her for a 2-3 minute interview on the newscast. Earlier this week, a cameraman from KPLR visited Ms. Heinlein’s classroom to get footage of her working with her students.
Nominations for Tools for Teachers are solicited online. The award is presented once a month by KPLR in partnership with Weber Chevrolet. The program shows appreciation for local teachers. The winner is chosen based on the impact they make in children’s lives. The $500 cash prize is for classroom use.
Ms. Heinlein said, “I was totally taken by surprise, but I was also incredibly flattered. I tell my students it’s easy to a good job teaching because you are my students.”
Here is Amy Hart’s nomination of Ms. Heinlein:
Ms. Heinlein is an amazing 5th grade teacher in the Collinsville School District. She is really fantastic at communicating with both her students and with parents. She maintains a website, sends daily emails, and records great (and maybe not so great) behavior via an app. She encourages the kids, while making sure they are respectful and kind. She also participates in extracurriculars with her students. So, any help to make her job easier and to benefit her classroom would be well-deserved and appreciated.
