Winter weather on February 28 caused the annual Dorris Intermediate School Black History Month Living Museum to be postponed – but didn’t impact the spirits of the students in Ms. Rawls’ and Ms.Gruber-Cigliana’s classes who created this year’s museum.
The rescheduled museum took place on Tuesday, March 5, 2019.
The lesson incorporates multiple education goals: The students spent February – Black History Month – researching an important person. The final project was to memorize significant facts about the famous individual, create a display board and physically become the person as part of a Living Museum in the classroom.
DIS classes were invited to visit the museum and push a virtual button at each display to learn about the contributions the subject made to black history.
Parents were invited to preview the museum prior to opening for DIS students
