On Wednesday, April 6, 2016, the Collinsville High School Delta Epsilon Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society honored students in the top 10% of the graduating Class of 2016. They also presented scholarships to two future teachers.
Delta Epsilon is a teacher honor society that promotes past, present and future women educators and honors academic achievement. For over 20 years they have annually honored the Top 10% of the senior class.
The evening began with introductions and comments by Barbara Lindauer, CHS social studies teacher and chair of the Delta Epsilon scholarship committee.
Lindauer announced the 2016 Future Educator Scholarship winners: seniors Catherine Goetter and Paige Philpott. The scholarships are given each year to young women who “evidence a potential for distinctive service in any field of education.”
Many of the 47 graduating seniors who rank in the top 10% of the class were able to attend the event. Each was presented a recognition certificate.
Lindauer said to those in attendance, “The fact that you are on this list of the top 10% of students in your class speaks to your intelligence, but, more than that, it is a testament to your hard work and dedication to seeking knowledge….I hope and trust that the education you received from your parents and Unit 10 has given you the skills to live a life of meaning and purpose.”
