December 10, 2021 – Collinsville Community Unit School District #10 Superintendent Dr. Mark B. Skertich shared the following update with families and the community today:

Kahok Families,
December has arrived! In the first week we have seen both winter and spring-like temperatures. The dilemma of wearing a t-shirt or sweatshirt is alive and well from week-to-week, but whether or not to wear purple should never be in question!
The tragedy in Oxford, Michigan, is a harsh reminder no school or school district is immune from violence. Trainings are mandatory for emergency situations, which is why our schools continually conduct drills and training for our staff and law enforcement to prepare for an unthinkable act of violence. These efforts are in place to save lives, however, our best defense is an open line of communication between students, families and our community. This starts with having regular conversations about school, work, friends, and family. During these conversations we learn of positive things that are occurring, as well as potential concerns. When you become aware of a worrisome situation, never hesitate to reach out to a school official or notify law enforcement.
We would much rather be proactive than reactive, and it takes a team effort to provide a safe environment. As we progress through this school year, please encourage your child to share not only the good, but also what may trouble them. This is a skill they will be able to use throughout life to help keep themselves and others safe.
Over the past few months, our district has been working with the Collinsville Education Scholarship Foundation to expand its reach beyond just scholarships for City of Collinsville residents to serve as the umbrella organization for new initiatives, such as the “Kahoks Teaching Kahoks” Scholarship Program, as well as future community projects, like parks and public spaces.. We are excited to work together and positively impact students, our school district and our communities! Click THIS LINK to read about the new Collinsville Area Community Foundation (CAF).
Please visit the district website to learn more about the Kahoks Teaching Kahoks Scholarship Program and how you can assist CHS Graduates that choose education as a profession. Also, plan to dine at Old Herald this Sunday, (December 12) for a fundraiser to benefit the program. On that day, 10% of sales will be donated to Kahoks Teaching Kahoks.
The pace of the holiday season has picked up, please be safe in the weeks ahead. Thank you for your constant dedication to our students. Have a great weekend and don’t forget to wear your purple and show your Kahok Pride!
Sincerely,
Mark B. Skertich, EdD
