May 12, 2022 – To bring cheer to Collinsville High School math teacher Brad Tayloe as he undergoes cancer treatment, students throughout Collinsville CUSD 10 have been making “Tessellations for Tayloe.” Their projects were shared with him as cards and artwork for his birthday May 12.
CHS Math Teacher Bill Gottschalk announced the initiative to CUSD 10 teachers and students with a video explaining that Mr. Tayloe is a geometry teacher who has his students draw or color tessellations to learn concepts about shapes. The goal is to pass along words of encouragement to Mr. Tayloe before the end of the school year by having students create or color tessellations for him. A tessellation is a pattern created with identical shapes which fit together with no overlap or space between. (Think tiles.) It works with shapes like squares and hexagons. Tessellations can be created by hand or by using a computer. Click below to watch a video explaining the concept.
