The CUSD 10 Title I department is unveiling the extension of it’s Little Free Libraries program into Fairmont City, Illinois. The event will be marked by a celebration and grand opening of a new Little Free Library on Friday, August 17, 2018, at 3:30 p.m. at the 5300 Trailer Park off of Collinsville Road in Fairmont City.
The local Little Free Library program is coordinated by CUSD 10’s Title I Department. The purpose of the federal Title I program is “Improving the Academic Achievement of the Disadvantaged.” Reading is an important component of the program’s goals.
“I am excited that the children will have a surplus of free books to read in their community,” says Title I Director Sarah Gray, “We will have three more libraries located at the 5100 and 5200 Collinsville Road Trailer Parks, as well as the trailer park off of Kingshighway.”
“There will be an ice cream truck to help us celebrate!” adds Gray, “I am so happy to open our Fairmont City Little Libraries!”
Gray wants to thank Mr. Allen Welch, instructor in the auto body shop at the Collinsville Area Vocational Center, for painting the new Little Free Library boxes.
The Little Free Library “Take a Book. Share a Book” concept is a nonprofit network of book sharing boxes meant to promote reading, provide access to books and build community.
