Dear Collinsville CUSD #10 Families, Staff and Community,
Today, for the first time in three years, the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) released School Report Cards at www.illinois report card.com. Each report card shows how schools are progressing on a wide range of educational goals.
ISBE has updated nearly every indicator in the accountability system to account for the impact of the pandemic. That means schools’ 2019 and 2022 designations are based on two different accountability systems; we should exercise caution in making comparisons between them.
One component of the School Report Card is the summative designation – a descriptor of how well a school is meeting the needs of all students. This designation is based on academics, student success, school culture and climate, and financial investments. overall data for all of the accountability indicators, as well as the data for individual student groups.
This year, eight of our schools are designated as Commendable, one is Targeted and two (Jefferson Elementary and Summit Elementary) do meet the size requirement to receive a designation. For a detailed description of the four ISBE designation categories, visit: School Improvement & Accountability/Annual Summative Designations.
Here are things to note about our schools’ 2022 Illinois Report Cards:
- Collinsville High School, Dorris Intermediate School, Caseyville Elementary, Kreitner Elementary, Maryville Elementary, Renfro Elementary, Twin Echo Elementary and Webster Elementary were designated as Commendable schools. This indicates they have no underperforming student demographic groups and a high school graduation rate that exceeds 67 percent.
- Collinsville Middle School is designated for Targeted Support which indicates they have one or more student demographic groups who are underperforming. ISBE has indicated CMS’ designation is based on the Children with Disabilities subgroup. A Targeted Support designation initiates targeted school improvement status and the school begins a four-year cycle of school improvement. As a result of this designation, CMS qualifies for additional funding and support to address the needs of those students.
Our schools’ Commendable status reflects investments the district has made in instructional staff, social emotional supports, STEM, early intervention programs and Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) to better meet the academic and social emotional needs of our students. CMS’ designation is not cause for trepidation, but rather a time for reflection on the school’s strengths and weaknesses, and how changes can be implemented for better student outcomes in the identified subgroup.
Also, when you view this year’s Illinois Report Cards, for the first time, you will see metrics for Equity Journey Continuum. This is an informational tool to track progress toward closing gaps in student achievement, opportunities and supports. Looking at these data points through the lens of equity makes it useful for improving outcomes for all students.
Collinsville Community Unit School District #10 holds high expectations for all students and believes every student can meet our expectations with the right support. Our teachers, administrators and staff, in partnership with you, are continuing to focus on student academic and social emotional growth.
