Collinsville Community Unit School District #10 Superintendent Dr. Robert Green released the following statement:
During the late evening yesterday, October 16, 2018, Collinsville Middle School administration was made aware of social media post recounting a potential threat against CMS. All information was immediately shared with the Collinsville Police Department for investigation.
A student was interviewed by the Collinsville Police Department and has been cooperating fully. The police investigation has revealed the threat is not credible and there is no imminent danger to students or staff. Due to the serious nature of the threat, there may be charges pending against the juvenile. In addition, the student will face disciplinary consequences at school.
We want parents and the community to understand this type of incident is taken very seriously. Our first action is to alert law enforcement and cooperate in their investigation. Our first priority is the safety of our students and staff. Please understand and trust our schools will never put students in danger.
Even in situations when we have not yet publicly shared information, we are working behind the scenes with local police, waiting for them to determine whether a threat is credible and action needs to be taken by the school.
We do our best to communicate in a timely and well-informed manner. We will not jeopardize an ongoing police investigation, compromise student privacy, or report news before we have sufficient, accurate information. However, we will always do what is in the best interest of our students.
We have the sacred responsibility of caring for children. Please know in this situation and in all situations, Collinsville Community Unit School District #10 and our partners in law enforcement are committed to school safety and security.
