Collinsville High School set a new record at their blood drive on Tuesday, September 29th collecting 176 units of blood. The Clinical Health Occupations classes and The Health Occupations Students Association (HOSA) partnered with Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center (MVRBC) to organize, promote and execute the blood drive.
Mississippi Valley’s Alissa Fuhrmann stressed the importance of the blood drive. We really needed these units coming off of the summer and Labor Day Holiday when donations drop by 20 percent, Fuhrmann said.
Collinsville High School shows great support and many students are eager to sign-up, she said.
These blood products will help as many as 704 patients at health care centers in our region, Fuhrmann said.
The High School students provide a critical lifesaving resource to patients in their own community at the hospitals Mississippi Valley serves including Anderson Hospital, HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Memorial Hospital and Touchette Regional Hospital.
MVRBC receives a significant amount of their blood supply from high school blood drives. We rely on the support and dedication of our area high schools to maintain a safe and adequate blood supply for patients throughout the area.
