The top bowler in the Southern Illinois High School Bowling Conference during the 2012-13 season, Collinsville senior Amber Burns didn’t miss a beat on Saturday at the Collinsville Girls Bowling Sectional.
Burns averaged a whopping 243 for her six games as she led the Kahoks to a 394-pin win over O’Fallon at Camelot Bowl.
Picking up where she left off when she led the league with a 213 average during the regular season, Burns finished with a six-game total of 1,459 pins as she took the individual title.
Kahok teammate Courtney Otradovec (1,345 pins) was a distant second while sophomore Lindsey Collins (1,213) gave Collinsville a third bowler who averaged more than 200.
Coach Sean Hay’s team finished with a score of 6,253 pins while O’Fallon was second at 5,839. Both teams will advance to the girls state bowling tournament, which begins Friday at Cherry Bowl in Rockford.
O’Fallon was led by freshman Madison Kasza (1,239) while Jordan Kasza was eight pins lower at 1,231.
Mount Vernon Sectional
Tough lane conditions at Nu Bowl in Mount Vernon made for a long day for local teams as Salem and Mount Vernon grabbed the two state team berths.
Salem won the title with 5,493 pins, while the host Rams placed second with 5,260. Belleville East placed third with 5,183.
Belleville East senior Katelyn Budnicki did grab one of the individual berths with 1,176 pins. The top two individuals not on the qualifying teams advance to state.
