Karen Kalous’ class at Collinsville Middle School took time to make make special holiday cards for Jefferson Barracks Veterans Hospital. The idea was to brighten the holidays for veterans and show appreciation for their service.
According to Kalous, “My students really enjoyed this project which replaced the typical Christmas movie before holiday break in our classroom. The students put forth much effort in writing and decorating the cards. They also raised $50 to buy sugar free candy for the veterans. I know a nurse who works at the Jefferson Barracks VA, so she delivered the cards for us. The veterans who received the cards were very touched. One man said the card was really special to him because it had a dump truck on it which he drove in civilian life and was signed with the same name as his daughter.”
