On Tuesday, August 14, the day all CUSD 10 staff reported for the 2018-19 school year, Collinsville Middle School Principal Dr. Kim Jackson took the CMS staff on a bus tour of several neighborhoods in the community.
CMS has two new assistant principals and seven new teachers this year. Jackson saw the tour as a way to bring the staff together for a bonding experience, help them become more familiar with the places their students live and do some back-to-school community service.
“We had a great first day with teachers,” said Jackson, “We took them on a tour of some specific community areas to help them gain a better understanding of the dynamics our kids face. We stopped and handed out school supplies in some areas.”
Along the way, the CMS teachers and administrators had the opportunity to meet and talk to people, including town officials.
“Fairmont City Police Chief Scott Penny took a few minutes to talk about the dynamics there, as well as his experiences in the area as someone who has been here a while, he’s a great resource,” said Jackson. As a result, the CMS staff gained a firsthand appreciation for the neighborhoods that make up our district.
