Kevin Pysz — health teacher at Collinsville Middle School — was presented the CUSD 10 Teacher of the Month Award for March 2018.
CMS Principal Dr. Kim Jackson and Edward Jones Financial Advisor: Jason Rehg surprised Pysz in his classroom today. A CMS video production crew captured everything for the CMS News.
“In addition to his regular duties, for the past two years, Mr. Pysz has been teaching a class of students who have been identified as being at-risk for failure in school. He has been a life-changer for those students,” said Dr. Jackson.
“He is a ‘check and connect’ person. He monitors their progress in other classes and treats them like his own kids. He’s practical and caring. He voluntarily takes on the tough kids and the success rate is substantial.”
Pysz spent ten years in the corporate world working in supply chain logistics. Seven years ago, after being downsized from Energizer in St. Louis, he made a career shift into teaching.
Pysz said, “I enjoy the flexibility of teaching Health Education and how it impacts all of the student’s other classes and their life outside of school. I really enjoy making the connection with the students and bringing comfort and laughter (hopefully) to the classroom each day.”
