“Cross Country is first and foremost a family of athletes focused on self improvement and cheering each other’s success. When one succeeds we all succeed,” said Coach Michael Hayman.
“Cross Country is unique because there is no bench. Everyone participates in every event and there are no cuts to the team,” said Hayman.
Many of my athlete’s are involved in many other activities at the same time. I am flexible with schedules and would rather accommodate the multitude of great athletes we have in Collinsville, than prevent them from a new sport that they have never experienced.”
Coach Hayman devotes a lot of time to developing his runners to become successful young people – not only successful athletes. He encourages students to try cross country in middle school.
“If you’re a 7th grader, who wants to be part of a team, develop a good work ethic and the ability to push through adversity…think about joining cross country next year.” says Hayman. “It’s not easy, but that’s what make’s it fun….”
