Collinsville Middle School’s yearbook cover design received accolades at a Southern Illinois School Press Association event at SIUC. CMS students Katie Daniel and Angel Bullard are the award winning designers.
“The 2016 cover was awarded 2nd place at SISPA. The cool thing is that we compete with high schools. First place was Alton High School, and third place was Okawville High School, so for our middle school kids to win 2nd place in a cover design contest at SIUC, that’s a big deal,” reported yearbook adviser CMS teacher Becky Juelfs.
Eighth grader Katie Daniel and seventh grader Angel Bullard designed the yearbook cover for CMS. This is Katie’s second year to win the school’s design competition as co-illustrator. Her strength is computer design. Angel came up with the phrase that was used and the concept with feet on a path.
The full cover design has been kept under wraps, but a preview can be seen in this photo along with the SISPA award certificates. CMS students will receive their yearbooks — and get to see the award-winning cover design — the week of April 25.
