Collinsville High School teacher, assistant athletic director and renowned Lady Kahoks soccer coach, Clay Smith, was named CUSD 10 Teacher of the Month for August 2017.
CHS Principal David Snider said of Smith, “Clay does a great job inspiring kids AND faculty here at CHS. He truly bleeds purple and white.”
Smith, a graduate of Collinsville High School, joined CUSD 10 in August 2002 as a teacher at the former North Junior High School. He has served as an adaptive and traditional PE teacher in district elementary schools, as well as Dorris Intermediate School, and now CHS.
He has led the Lady Kahoks to seven consecutive conference championships, six consecutive regional championships, six consecutive sectional championships and three consecutive trips to the state championship. In recognition of his accomplishments, Smith was voted Illinois Soccer Coach of the Year in 2014, 2015 and 2016. While concurrently coaching the CHS Boys Soccer team, Coach Smith led them to conference titles in 2015 and 2016, and the 2016 regional championship.
In response to the surprise announcement that he was chosen as Teacher of the Month, Smith said, “I’m Proud to Be a Kahok. I love getting up in the morning, putting on purple and coming to work. It’s nice to get this honor, but I know there are many people in the district who feel like I do.”
