Collinsville High School saluted a group of local veterans at the school’s annual lunch honoring military service.
Social studies teacher Barbara Lindauer organizes the event to show appreciation to those who have served and to educate students about the sacrifices made by veterans.
Several students invited parents or grandparents to attend. Fifteen veterans, representing every branch of the military except the US Coast Guard, were the honored guests.
The group was entertained by a CHS choir performance and was treated to lunch. Sodexo food service gave each guest a box of decorated cookies and CHS library worker Nancy Gersternecker presented a handmade card to them. Each also received a card made by students to thank them for their service to our country.
The event was held in December this year to accommodate veterans who had other obligations on Veterans Day.
