March 2023 – The World Affairs Council of St. Louis hosted the 2023 Academic WorldQuest competition at St. Louis University on Wednesday, March 1st. Seniors Ian Marlow and Sebastian Gutierrez, junior Elliott Schusky and sophomore Henry Bauer represented Collinsville High School.
Teams of four students from throughout the region competed in a trivia-night format event with 8 rounds of 10 questions on current issues facing the world, including a focus on Ethiopia, the Arctic Council, hunger and food insecurity, global supply chains, and several other topics of global concern.
Twenty-six teams from 16 schools representing the St. Louis metro area competed. The top team won an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C., to compete against 70 teams in the upcoming National WorldQuest competition. St. Louis Public Radio Host Rachel Lippmann read the questions and emceed the event.
“The students worked cooperatively to answer the difficult questions over the various topics,” said CHS social studies teacher Mark Schusky who accompanied the team. He said the CHS team finished just behind the 3rd place team, which was a strong showing for the Kahoks competing among some of the best and brightest high school students in our region.
