Collinsville High School Teacher Barbara Lindauer was honored this summer by the Illinois Veterans of Foreign Wars and the national VFW organization for her outstanding contributions to our nation’s youth.
Lindauer was named the 2016 Illinois VFW Smart/Maher Citizenship Education Teacher for grades 9-12. Her selection put her in competition with educators from across the nation for the VFW Teacher of the Year. She was first runner-up for the national award.
In addition to being chair of the Social Studies Department at CHS, Lindauer plans and hosts the school’s annual Salute to Veterans. She is a champion for teaching civic responsibility and recently lead the team that applied for CHS to receive designation as an Illinois Democracy School. She is also sponsor of the Multicultural Kahoks.
As a finalist for VFW Teacher of the Year, Lindauer was invited to participate in the Freedoms Foundation Medal of Honor Classes held each summer in Valley Forge.
