December 8, 2021 – On Monday, December 6, three Collinsville High School students participated in Illinois State Senator Jason Plummer’s Student Advisory Council in Vandalia, Illinois. They joined high school students from across Sen. Plummer’s district.
CHS juniors Tyrone Ealy, Jack Geisen, and Destiny Thomas were chosen by CHS staff based on engagement and performance in social studies classes. CHS Social Studies teacher Toni Geisen accompanied them.
Mrs. Geisen said, “Students were divided into groups that had to come up with potential legislation and present it to their peers. Five groups presented their ideas and all students voted to accept one proposal. Destiny Thomas was in the group whose proposal on mental health in schools will advance to possibly become legislation. All students in attendance will go to Springfield this spring to draft the concept into legislation for presentation to the Illinois State Legislature in the future.”
