Collinsville High School senior Jimmy Moore has been named a 2019 National Merit Finalist by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
In the fall, Moore learned he was a Semifinalist in the 64th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.
Students become eligible for the competition when they take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT.) Moore’s score put him in the top 1.25% nationally.
His test score, combined with high school grades, recommendations, leadership roles and personal essay earned him designation as a Finalist.
