September 12, 2022 – Collinsville High School English teacher Ryan Kemp was recognized today as August 2022 Kahok Educator of the Month. The award was presented by CHS Principal Daniel Toberman and Edward Jones Financial Advisor Jason Rehg.
In his nomination of Ryan Kemp, Mr. Toberman wrote:
Ryan Kemp is our choice. He has taught English and coached golf here since 2011. He is the favorite teacher of most of his students. No matter what adversities come Mr. Kemp’s way, he always remains positive and is a calming influence for his students.
Mr. Kemp is an exceptional teacher at Collinsville High School. Mr. Kemp innately builds genuine relationships with students with his authenticity and caring demeanor. In education, we talk about how relationships are important for classroom management and student growth. Ryan Kemp is the embodiment of this theoretical stance. Ryan literally never writes referrals because his students are extremely engaged. He cares about them and what they think. This year, when I observed Ryan, he had students doing classroom presentations about who they are, what they enjoy and who they want to become. Most teachers and students would look at this assignment as a mere public speaking assignment. Ryan was taking notes about the students and not their skill level. He wants to know his students early on so that he can motivate them.
Ryan is great every year and not just this year. For these reasons, I enthusiastically recommend Ryan for Kahok Educator of the Month.
Local Edward Jones Representative Jason Rehg sponsors the award each month during the school year to recognize outstanding educators in Collinsville CUSD 10.
