CHS Outstanding Students Recognized for 2018-19 Second Semester

Collinsville High School’s January, February, March, April and May 2019 seniors, students, and athletes of the month:

Seniors of the Month

February 2019 – Rocio Romo was awarded the Racial Harmony Award for Southern Illinois.  Rocio was nominated for her leadership with the Multicultural Club and her role in organizing a movie night for Black History Month.  Rocio is also the student coordinator of the annual Global Festival.  She also translates for the ELL students and gives them personal invitations to school events and activities so that they feel included and welcome.

March 2019 – Morgan Myers ranked in the top 10 in Certified Emergency Responder (CERT) Competition at the Illinois HOSA State Competition. This honor qualified Morgan, and her partner, to compete at the International HOSA Competition in Dallas.  Morgan has also earn a variety of  scholarships to attend University of Missouri in St. Louis for next year.

Mackenzie OBear earned immediate direct enrollment in SIUE school of pharmacy. She also won third place in a pharmacy contest at state HOSA – advancing to nationals.

 

April 2019 – Drew Doyle has been accepted into the very competitive Navy Seals program. He works tirelessly in the weight room on his goals, while making time to bring along other student-athletes in the class.

May 2019 – Erika Hicks & Dominique Bacchetti for winning 1 st place in the cyber security & technology division for power pitch at the Conrad Innovation Challenge at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

 

 

Students of the Month

January 2019 – Imani Luellen, Justin Peterson, Damian Morris and Jessica Doebber for winning first place in SIUEs Ethics Bowl regional tournament for the second consecutive year.

February 2019 – Sam Blaha is highly energetic with a great sense of humor, but he is also known for his caring side.  He is active in both Student Council and the Multicultural Club.  Sam was part of a group of students who organized a luncheon to honor veterans.  In this endeavor Sam showed his keen organizational skills, along with his respect and compassion for the veterans.  In another case Sam was instrumental in organizing a Dodgeball Tournament to raise funds for charity.

March 2019 – Nicholas Shepherd, Emma Stauthammer, James Metcalf and Tyler Morgan. These four students qualified as a team for the Illinois Personal Finance Challenge State Competition.

April 2019 – Micayla Klein, Paige Bauer, Leah Tyler, Melanie Johnson, Nichole Pacheco, and Krysta Swartz, the class of 2020 officers put in endless hours before school, after school and on the weekends planning, organizing and executing a very successful 2019 Prom.  They organized multiple fundraisers in an effort to lower the cost of a prom ticket.  Because of their efforts, the cost of a ticket was lowered from $70 per person to $60 per person.  Prom attendance saw an increase of over 175 attendees.

May 2019 – Raphael Spells, Kirstyn Miranda, Lorien Mills, and Vanessa Lorenzana, these four choir students did a huge favor for the CAVC Preschool, they took a project to re-write lyrics for four songs from the musical “Grease” to play for the preschoolers to dance to at their graduation.  This made the day very special for all involved.

Athletes of the Month

January 2019 – Ryan Warner for Varsity Boys Bowling. He has had multiple 11 strike games, including in the state finals.  He finished 7th overall in the state finals and was the highest finisher of any of the southern teams.  He finished with the high average in our conference and the second high average overall.  His match and tournament averages both rank 2nd overall for Kahok Boys team history.

February 2019 – Ray Sean Taylor was chosen for the third team all-state for boys basketball

Faith Liljegren is not only tied for 1st in her class and tied for leading GPA on our team, but she set two huge records during the last month of the girls basketball season.  Faith set a new record for assists in a season (125) and set a new record for the team and school with 134 steals in a season.

March 2019 – Darci Metzger was offered a full ride Volleyball scholarship from Murray State University and verbally committed.

Jermarrion Stewart competed at the IL Prep Top Times meet in both the 60 meter dash and the 200 meter dash. He placed 4th in the 60 with a season best of 6.98, and 2nd in the 200 with a personal best of 22.69.

April 2019 – Emily Bone, Lance Pratter, Dominic Darron, PJ Tottleben, Hunter Bossetto, Drew Doyle, Brenden Sommer, Emma Schmidlekoffer, and Zach Graffen for Trap Club.  They have been amazing leaders and were contributors to starting and building a strong club with a great work ethic.  The seniors displayed kindness and loyalty to all members of the club.
