Collinsville High School Latin students earned accolades at the 2018 IJCL North Convention in Chicago.
“This year, we had a great showing for school spirit with unified outfits, chants and cheers for each day theme – all of which were prepared and organized by the students and the Latin Club officers,” said Latin Teacher James Stark, “As a result of their hard work, CHS placed 2nd for Overall School Spirit in our division.”
This year, CHS earned 20 awards across 12 students. “We were up against 500+ of the most dedicated Latin students in Illinois,” said Stark.

“Last but not least, six of our Latin Club members worked in pairs to lead 120 students from other schools through a colloquium session in which they performed an activity that recreated the Catiline Conspiracy of 43 BCE. Although they were supervised by adults, these students ran 100% of this activity without additional support. One parent even asked me if they were college students because she couldn’t believe how well they handled everything,” added Stark.

Collinsville High School offers one of three sanctioned Latin programs in the Metro East. The other local programs are Althoff Catholic High School and Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.
