February 14, 2024 – Over the February 10-11, 2024 weekend, 26 CHS Latin Club members competed and participated in the Illinois Junior Classical League 2024 North Convention in Chicago.
Latin teacher James Stark said, “This is another record number of attendees for CHS (by 1 student), once again made possible by donations to our Mary Lee Muniz Travel Scholarship Fund, which has allowed students of all economic backgrounds to attend.”
Students earned a hefty total of 47 academic, artistic and performance awards.
- For the first time, a student from CHS was elected to the North Convention Student Board. Junior Gavin Leech was elected 1st Vice President for the organization. Gavin has already been serving on the South Convention Board for the last couple years, and he has goals of making the Chicago convention more welcoming and accessible to students outside the Chicagoland area.
- Also for the first time, the Upper Level CHS Certamen Team made it to finals and secured third place overall. This team consisted of Isabel Perez, Elliott Schusky ,Gavin Leech, Tristan Schubert, Brian Castro, and Gus Dorman, (pictured below with their trophy).
